Service of the Word, Wednesday, 25th August 2021- St Augustine of Hippo
PRAYER FOR GROWTH
God of mission,
who alone brings growth to your church
Send your holy spirit
To give vision to our planning
Wisdom to our actions
And power to our witness
Help our churches to grow in numbers
In spiritual commitment to you
And in service to our local community
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

THE CREED

We believe in God the Father
from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named
We believe in God the Son
who lives in our hearts, through faith
and fills us with his love
We believe in God the Holy Spirit
who strengthens us with power from on high
We believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit
Amen
THE CREED
Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty
who was and is and is to come.
We believe in God the Father, who created all things
for by his will they were created and have their being.
We believe in God the Son, who was slain
for with his blood he purchased us for God
from every tribe and language
from every people and nation.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit and the Bride say 'Come.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus'
Amen
THE CREED
Though he was divine,
he did not cling to equality with God,
but Jesus Christ made himself nothing.
Taking the form of a slave,
he was born in human likeness;
he humbled himself,
and was obedient to death -
even the death of the cross.
Therefore God has raised him on high,
and given him the name above every name:
that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow,
and every voice proclaim
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Amen.
(Philippians 2:6-11)
THE (ATHANASIAN) CREED

We believe and declare that our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Son of God, is both divine and human.
God, of the being of the Father,
the only Son from before time began;
human from the being of his mother, born in the world;
Allfully God and fully human;
human in both mind and body.
As God he is equal to the Father,
as human he is less than the Father.
AllAlthough he is both divine and human
he is not two beings but one Christ.
One, not by turning God into flesh,
but by taking humanity into God;
Alltruly one, not by mixing humanity with Godhead,
but by being one person.
For as mind and body form one human being
so the one Christ is both divine and human.
AllThe Word became flesh and lived among us;
we have seen his glory,
the glory of the only Son from the Father,
full of grace and truth.
Nicene Creed

THE CREED

We believe in one God,
the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven:
was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
Who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified.
Who has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
An early creed from Corinthians

Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures.
He was buried; he was raised to life on the third day, in accordance with the scriptures.
Afterwards he appeared to his followers and to all the apostles.
This we have received and this we believe. Amen.

THE APOSTLES' CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty
Creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day He rose again.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins.
the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.
Amen
